Five years after the passing of esteemed Colombian author Gabriel Garcia Marquez, it felt necessary to remake the covers of his novels to keep his legacy alive. As a figurehead of magical realism, it felt appropriate to honor Marquez by creating book covers which captured his love of taking the real and tweaking it to become more fantastical. 

Illustrative covers were created using flowers, which Garcia frequently used in his novels to portray key elements. Each cover represents an important element of the story using petals and bright colors. The design evokes Gabriel’s free spirit and rich writing, which reflects the reality of life in Colombia.
